Your Downtown Calgary Choice for Wisdom Teeth Extractions!
What are Wisdom Teeth?
The third and final set of molars to erupt, your wisdom teeth are located in the very back of the mouth. They usually develop in the late teens or early twenties, but they can erupt anywhere between the ages of 14-30. Some people never get a full set of wisdom teeth. For many people, wisdom teeth grow in properly and do not cause any problems at all. For many others however, wisdom teeth can prove to be problematic, and dental intervention is necessary in order to avoid dangerous complications. If problematic wisdom teeth are left untreated, it could lead to gum disease, tooth decay, and occlusion problems.
Advantages of Wisdom Tooth Removal
- Reduces headaches
- Reduces the risk of oral disease
- Reduce orofacial pain and some TMJ issues
Why Might Wisdom Teeth Need to Be Removed?
Wisdom teeth may be considered for removal if they are showing signs that might compromise your oral health, if they are causing damage to the adjacent structures, or if they are causing you any pain. Oftentimes, your dentist will recognize that your wisdom teeth will become problematic before they actually do, and so will recommend preventative removal before the roots are fully developed. Nuera Dental Center will thoroughly assess your bite and take a series of diagnosis x-rays to see exactly what is going on in your gums and bone tissue, and decide if wisdom teeth removal would be best for you.
Reasons for Wisdom Tooth Removal
Inadequate space: If there is not enough room in the mouth for the wisdom teeth to fully erupt and become functional, this can result in pain, decay/cavities, and gum infections. Inadequate space can also cause damage to the adjacent teeth, as well as cysts, which could require major surgery later on.
Impacted Wisdom Teeth: If there is not enough room for the wisdom teeth to properly erupt, they may develop diagonally or horizontally, eventually becoming completely stuck, or “impacted.”
It is always better to be proactive when it comes to your oral health. If you are experiencing any pain, swelling, or discomfort, call Nuera Dental Center at (403) 228-3088 to see if wisdom tooth removal is the best option for you.
